Part 2 of 2, the Heart of Teaching Toddlers is continued in Season 1, Episode 1.

On this episode of Voices from the Village toddler teachers, Christy and Shaila, respond to episode 1 with Deb Curtis. They share insights gained from years working in the unique role of toddler teacher and mentor to hundreds of future early educators. Shaila and Christy share what happened when they shifted their focus from the “stuff” in the classroom to children focusing on each other? “It was so powerful for me because what I realized, what I’d been doing, my whole career is focusing the children on stuff that was the rules about stuff.  …I want to help them see each other’s ideas and negotiate around the ideas.” Listen as Christy and Shayla share successes and challenges with educating toddlers and their experiences with collaborating.

Shaila Limon

Shaila Limon graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.A. in Family and Consumer Science with a concentration in Professional Child Development. Originally from Greybull, WY, she has lived in Laramie for the past six years, and worked in some capacity at the ECEC from the beginning. Building strong relationships with each child is important for her as she strives to create an environment where children can feel safe and loved. 

Christy O'Flannigan

Christy O'Flannigan graduated from the University of Wyoming with a B.A. in Family and Consumer Science with her concentration in Professional Child Development.  She has plans to continue her education in the near future.  Christy has taken every opportunity to further her experience with children and is excited for her future at the ECEC. Christy takes a great personal interest in the success of each child in her classroom.  She makes every effort to build strong, meaningful relationships with each child and their family. Christy aides the children in having a rich learning experience by providing age-appropriate activities for them to explore and discover.
